The making of Ugra

The making of Ugra

In a world of fleeting trends and mass production, we are making something that represents the craftsmanship of India.

A pair of shoes that is one of a kind. That lasts. That can be passed on. That molds to the shape of the your feet and becomes an extension of your personality. Ugra is a story of heritage and individual journeys.

When you choose Ugra, you're commissioning a piece of work. Our craftsmen use techniques perfected over generations to create your shoes. Let me take you behind the scenes and share those 15 meticulous steps that our craftsmen go through over four-five days to transform premium materials into wearable art.

It all starts with leather: We begin with the finest full-grain leather imported from Argentina. Our artisans hand-select each piece, examining the unique grain, texture, and natural markings. This is the canvas for our art.

Our trademark designs: Each Ugra shoe starts with its unique blueprint. We create a detailed stencil that guide every cut and stitch in crafting the shoe. This stencil ensures precise leather cutting in the next step.

Time to cut by hand: Once we have the patterns, our craftsmen cut the leather by hand. This precision work requires an intimate understanding of leather's natural variations.

We thin the edges: We carefully thin the edges of the cut pieces. It's a delicate balance - too much, and we compromise strength; too little, and we lose our sleek silhouette.

Flat becomes 3D: This is where our designs start to take shape, literally. We mold the flat pieces into three-dimensional forms.

Getting ready to stitch: Precision is key as we align and prepare each piece for stitching.

Every stitch counts: Our artisans don't just stitch; they count each stitch, ensuring consistency and durability. This attention to detail? That's pure Ugra.

Shoe meets its shape: We stretch the upper over a foot-shaped mold, giving the shoe its final shape. It's a process that demands strength, skill, and an understanding of foot anatomy.

Prepping the soles: While the upper takes shape, we prepare the leather sole, cutting and treating it to perfectly complement the upper.

Upper meets lower: This critical step unites the upper and sole. We use both adhesives and stitching for a bond that's as enduring as it is seamless.

Heels take a stand: For our signature high heels, this step is crucial. We craft and attach the heel with precision, creating that iconic Ugra silhouette. Our hardware, from heel tips to buckles, is solid and built to last.

Leather lining: Luxury should feel as good as it looks. We carefully install a soft, luxurious leather lining for unparalleled comfort.

Cushion underfoot: A leather-covered cushioned insole adds the final touch of comfort.

Adding some flair: This is where each Ugra shoe truly becomes one-of-a-kind. Whether it's decorative stitching or unique embellishments, these final touches elevate our shoes to something more special.

One last polish: Finally, we bring out the natural beauty of the leather through careful polishing, giving each shoe that unmistakable Ugra gleam.

True luxury can't be rushed.

When you slip on a pair of Ugra, you're wearing the legacy of centuries of craftsmanship, the skill of our artisans, and a piece of art as unique as you are.

We're not fast, we're not cheap, and we're certainly not ordinary. But for those who know - really know - there's nothing quite like it.

We pour our hearts into every pair we create. And we hope you enjoy wearing Ugra shoes as much as we enjoy making them for you.

- With love, Ugra
